Frequently Asked Questions
It is a break or crack in the bone or cartilage of the nose, usually from an injury or trauma.
Symptoms include nasal pain, swelling, bruising around the eyes, bleeding, and sometimes a visibly crooked nose or difficulty breathing.
Apply ice to reduce swelling and see a doctor promptly, especially if there is heavy bleeding or trouble breathing.
Minor fractures may heal without treatment. Displaced fractures may need to be realigned, sometimes with a short procedure under anesthesia.
See an ENT within a few days of injury, since swelling can make it harder to assess later, and realignment is easier when done early.
