Tonsillectomy

Tonsillectomy is the surgical procedure to remove both palatine tonsils, two oval-shaped lymphoid tissue masses at the back of the throat, is known as a tonsillectomy.

Indications

Recurrent or chronic tonsillitis
Obstructive sleep apnea
As part of various oral-pharyngeal procedures
Tonsillar malignancy
Peritonsillar abscess (Quinsy)
Tonsillectomy surgery by Dr. Sanjay Kewalramani is performed under general anesthesia, and post-surgical recovery takes 10-14 days. Cold steel tools (blade) or specialist surgical instruments such as a Coblator/ cautery are most often used. Almost all patients experience throat soreness following tonsillectomy surgery, which generally lasts 3-5 days.
